Three Questions

That Changed My Business

Being a business owner is like building a plane while it’s flying— incredibly challenging yet deeply rewarding.

Here are three (3) weekly journaling questions I ask myself every Friday morning to make sure my plane is on course:

  1. What’s Working?

I review my week’s calendar to pinpoint successes. It could be a new morning routine, a productive networking event, or a fresh strategy. I write down these wins and commit to their ongoing momentum, not necessarily adding more, just maintaining progress.

  2. What’s Not?

I honestly reflect on moments of stress or where I fell short. For instance, trying Facebook networking drained me without yielding results, so I removed it. I’ve learned to prioritize self-compassion, like abandoning 5 am workouts and allowing for more creative breaks.

  3. What’s the Next Right Step?

Sometimes it’s sustaining what’s effective or removing what isn’t. Transitioning to LinkedIn from Facebook was my right step; it led to significant successes that I’ve continued weekly.

This exercise reveals your growth as a business owner, creating something from nothing is truly magic! On tough days, I reflect on how far I’ve come and it gives me confidence I’m traveling in the right direction.

I recommend writing; truth always comes out, though digital works too.

Take your time to reflect.

In business and in life.

It will pay off.

Did you know that Old San Juan has a rule that every building must be painted a different color from its neighbor? In fact, you have to apply for your color. Pretty cool huh? I have found much joy in strolling random streets, taking photos, and people watching. The simple things in life truly are the best. Puerto Rico, 2024.
